Rat Pest Control

The black rat is now exceptionally rare with the brown rat the common pest. There are considerable differences in estimation of rat population in the UK but a commonly held belief is that there are more rats than humans.

Brown rats are prolific breeders with a gestation period of only 21 days with litter sizes most often ranging between 5 and 10 however rat litters numbering 14 have been recorded. In only three months, the babies are fertile with a life expectancy of about three years.

Rats carry a multitude of diseases: Weil’s disease, cryptosporidium, salmonella, E.Coli, toxoplasmosis, thread worm and tuberculosis. Should your suspicions be aroused that there may be a rat problem then quick intervention is essential to prevent unnecessary exposure to health risk.
